Keamari Town : ウィキペディア英語版 | Kiamari Town
Kiamari Town or Kemari Town (also spelt Keamari and Kemari) ((シンド語: ڪياماڙي ٽائون ) (ウルドゥー語: کیماڑی ٹاؤن )) is the main coastal town of Karachi on Hawke's Bay, comprising the western parts of the city, including the Port of Karachi with an extensive coastline of sandy beaches, small islands and Mangrove forests. It does not include the southern Island of Manora which is under cantonment administration because of the naval base located there. The town forms a large triangle with highly defined boundaries: the RCD Highway and the Lyari River form the northeastern border, the Hub River to the northwestern border, and the Arabian Sea forms the southern border. There are several ethnic groups represented among the population of Kemari Town, with the Kutchi, Sindhis, Balochis, Muhajirs, Punjabis, Pakhtuns, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Memons, Bohras and Ismailis. The population of Keamari town is predominantlty Muslim with small communities of Hindus and Christians. Kiamari Town is represented by Constituency NA-239 in the National Assembly of Pakistan, and by PS-89 and PS-90 in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.〔(Karachi NA-239: In this constituency by the sea, there is hardly a drop of water to drink )〕 == History == Kemari is one of the oldest areas of Karachi thought to be coming into being over 300 years ago. The federal government introduced local government reforms in the year 2000, which eliminated the previous third tier of government (administrative divisions) and raised the fourth tier (districts) to become the new third tier. The effect in Karachi was the dissolution of the former Karachi Division and the merger of its five districts to form a new Karachi City-District with eighteen autonomous constituent towns including Kiamari Town.
